Sun Continues To Suffer “Low” Stock Price – Java?

Filed under: JVM & Java — Mike Brunt @ 12:00 am

I have mulled before over the current state of Sun simply because we are now as CF”ers closely aligned with Java, J2EE etc. Of course Java is open but I can”t help but consider the fact that in terms of languages we have Microsoft with immense financial strength and few real signs of serious weakness and Sun with ongoing financial woes which, as a business person, I can really see no end to. Sun really does not have anything compelling enough, that I am aware of, to change its fortunes, any time soon.

There is an article in the business section of the Los Angeles Times today talking of a rumored buyout of Sun, which is denied by Scott McNealy. That
is not what drew my attention, rather it is the current value of the shares which is currently at around $3.60. Many other companies badly affected
by the dot-com meltdown have recovered far better, Macromedia being one example. It just makes me a little uneasy that Java’’s evolution is still so
closely coupled to Sun.
